The Praetorian training is usually offered, in most cases, not a voluntary matter, to male children of a house in female-dominated Drow cities.
The duration of schooling depends on the students' abilities. Magically gifted students will undergo extra training in their element of choice, increasing the training time to about 180 years. Praetorians are primarily trained in single-handed sword and dagger control (magic gifted will use a sword and a wand). Still, they receive additional several years of training with a short bow and pistol crossbow.
After 100 years of melee and ranged combat training, students receive their purpose-built armor, mostly made of Rothé leather. Metal parts, such as the helmet, shoulder, and breastplates, are made of Darksteel and refined with Mithral if the student brings the material. To craft the armor, the students will be sent to gather the necessary minerals themselves.
Once the training is completed successfully, Praetorians are highly loyal and follow any order, regardless of whether it would mean their own death.
