A few days ago, Ykril finally woke up from his coma. Unfortunately, he seemed to have lost his memory and couldn't even remember me. Over the last few days, I often sat crying next to his bed while he slept and wondered why we were being punished like this.
The responsible priestess said that a so-called retrograde amnesia, whatever that is, was to be expected with his head injuries and tried to reassure me that she was sure it was only temporary. But she couldn't explain why he had forgotten almost two years.
She also assured me that I could help him to recover by stimulating his memory with recognizable things such as smells, tastes and gestures. However, his confrontation with Miara was a throwback, as he hit his head against the edge of the table after Miara punched him hard in the face. So I tried to trigger the possible stimulants mentioned and applied a little more mint shampoo, used a little more lavender and cooked his favorite meal. But all of this seemed to have hardly any effect at all. Yet, I would rather not give up and only needed a few hours to prepare something.
As I was changing and sliding into the purple dress that I had been preparing for several months for a very different purpose, I heard a giggle from a small chamber. Interested, I looked towards a slightly open door and could see Ykril's cheeky eyes sparkling through the gap. Recognizable by the fact that he gave off a gentle, distinctive aura.
»You don't need to peek secretly. You can come out.« I asked him in a calm voice, whereupon he hesitantly came out and approached me. His reticence was cute and reminded me of our first dates. Nevertheless, I missed his dominance, which he showed in certain situations.
»We're lovers. If you want to see me, no matter how, just tell me.« I spoke sweetly to him as I stroked his cheek tenderly.
He continued not to say a word, but just looked at me nervously. Without thinking, I placed both of my hands on his body and only realized that I hadn't even zipped up my dress when it fell to the floor. Immediately, he began to explore my body tenderly with his hands, stroking every inch he could reach. I savored every single touch, which I had missed so much over the last few months.
After he had walked around me twice to inspect me from every side, he suddenly knelt down in front of me and put his ear on my stomach.
»It's going to be a boy.« he whispered softly, in a happy voice, whereupon I could no longer hold back my tears.
Without speaking, he placed the tip of his nose just above my belly button and gently pushed it up between my breasts, while his hands slid along my sides to my breasts. His left-hand resting on my breast for a moment, he gently wiped the tears from my cheeks with his right hand and looked deep into my eyes.
»Why should a godlike beauty like you be interested in a simple farmer like me?« he asked with interest.
»Because I love you« I replied instantly and at that moment he took my head between his hands, just as he had done when we first kissed, and pressed his lips to mine.
His memories seemed to be coming back slowly but surely, which was clearly evident in his growing confidence towards me. Nevertheless, I slipped back into the purple dress and walked with him to the forest, south of the mountain of Waterdeep. I was so happy that Sanise stood ready with her lute, beaming happily at us, and yet it seemed to be one of the few moments that she was taking seriously. With a simple fire spell, I made the fire bowls flare up, whose light made the well-placed lazure crystals sparkle like stars, and snuggled up to Ykril, ready to dance.
A few hours passed and Sanise silently slipped away. Ykril and I were so immersed in our dance that we only noticed it after a while.
We sat down at the picnic place and nibbled on the fresh fruit. I had made sure that it was fruit from Faerûn. Something like cherries, strawberries, grapes and topped it off with fresh cheese. After a few bites, he looked at me with a slightly questioning and cheeky expression. I tilted my head slightly and asked him mildly:
»What are you thinking right now?«
»I was just thinking about what's under your beautiful dress. I liked what I saw earlier too much, and – I'd like to see it again« he said briskly and in his direct way, which he only showed when he was very close to someone and could be sure. Had I got my sweetheart back completely? I didn't know, but I liked the direction our little date was taking and smiled seductively in his direction.
»Wait. There's something else.« he said hastily and dug a small box out of his pocket.
»I remembered something and thought you might like it. That's why I left quite early to get some.« he said in a soft voice, but he couldn't completely hide his nervousness.
When he opened the small box, the soft purple glow of the Underdark Night Orchid shone out at me. If he could already remember it, there was a very high chance that he could be who he was before the poison.
I smiled broadly at him and felt a tear run down my cheek as I took the plant.
»You can remember again?« I asked uncertainly.
»It's not much, but I think it's the most important thing. I love you, we're married, we're expecting a child together, and I'll be the happiest father.« he replied sweetly.
I gave him a tender kiss and spoke straight away.
»I have something for you too,« I said, pushing the package that Sanise had placed for me next to the picnic basket in front of him.
»I do not want you to be so vulnerable again. That's why I've been working on something while you've been absent.« I nodded at him slightly.
He looked at me with interest, opened the package, and immediately lifted out the breastplate I had made for him. It wasn't long before he expressed his happiness in his own way and tried to smile towards me.
»But that wasn't necessary ...« he began, but I interrupted him by kissing him.
»It was.« I whispered softly, »You take care of me, so I'll take care of you.«
I gave him another kiss, began to open my dress as I leaned back and smiled towards him lustfully.
»How much you want to see, again?«
We spent several hours, sometimes more, sometimes less romantically, until we fell onto the picnic blanket next to each other, completely exhausted. Soaked in sweat, I snuggled up to him, laid my head on his chest and listened to his wildly beating heart.
»Was it what you imagined?« I asked cheekily, although I knew exactly what his answer would be based on his racing heartbeat. However, I also had to admit that it would feel wonderful to receive confirmation. Especially if it was from him.
Gasping for breath, he finally responded.
»Better. Much better.«
